This award honors a member who has made contributions in support of the goals of the Guild and whose skills and workmanship the membership admires and respects.

What the Award Recognizes
The criteria for a Master Quilter are listed below.
Workmanship
General appearance: quilts are attractive.
Quilts lie flat; edges are straight; precise piecing.
Mitered corners are squared.
Shows a good sense of color.
Knowledge
Excellent sewing skills; knowledge of quilting terms.
Can look at a pattern and understand how it is made.
Can read and decipher complex patterns.
Creativity
Has a sense of adventure and design; is innovative.
Knows many styles of quilting, including embellishments.
Has knowledge of different techniques.
Quilts do not all look alike: color, style, size, etc.
Originality
Should be able to produce original work.
Services
Volunteers within the guild, i.e., guild committees.
Has chaired guild committees.
Volunteers to help others learn.
Shares their skills with others by teaching.

How Nominations Work
Any member of the Guild can nominate another member who they feel meets the qualifications of a Master Quilter. The nominee must agree to accept the responsibilities of the Master Quilter. Procedures for the 2026 Master Quilter will follow the 2024 procedure.
August
Nominations open at the program meeting, and the voting procedure is reviewed.
September
Nominations close at the end of the program meeting.
October
Nominations are announced and nomination letters are read to the membership. Letters also appear in the November newsletter and are sent by email. Nominees bring 2-3 quilts to show the membership.
November
The Master Quilter vote will occur, and votes are counted but not revealed at this time. Members who will not be present at the November meeting (2nd Tuesday of the month) must mail their votes to MMQ, P.O. Box 3254.
Holiday Party
The new Master Quilter is revealed.
Writing a nomination letter
Write a letter about the candidate, listing the qualities of their quilting, what skills they may have and their service to the Guild. Two typed pages is the maximum.
Can't make the November meeting?
Put your vote on a piece of paper in a plain sealed envelope. Put that inside a mailing envelope with your name on the outside (for example, as the return address) and mail it to MMQ, P.O. Box 3254, Sunriver OR 97707, at least one week before the November meeting on the second Tuesday.
